Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit

.BLASPHEMY - BLASPHEMIA = a hindering of light in a way that brings injury. In contextual usage it can mean slander, defaming communication, injurious speech, vilification, misrepresentation, abusive speech that gives a false image of the subject, or, as the Concordant Concordance gives, "harm-averment." Blasphemia describes behavior and speech that vilifies another.

Blasphemy is the use of slander to make one’s thoughts publicly known in an attempt to ruin the good name and reputation of someone else in order to hinder them.

Slander- oral defamation, in which someone tells one or more persons an untruth about another, which untruth will harm the reputation of the person defamed. http://dictionary.law.com/

If we consider the above definitions of "blasphemy," it becomes apparent that the scribes and Pharisees were creating a "false image" of Jesus. Such a false image of Him, or a misrepresentation of Him, would hinder the light that He was bringing to the people. It was one way in which they "shut up the kingdom" and hindered people entering it (Matt. 23:13). If in what they said they were blaspheming the Holy Spirit – in their criticism of His work – they were in fact defaming and slandering God Himself.

To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed. (Titus 2:5) Misrepresenting, defaming or giving a false image of God's Word, idea or message was Paul's concern in this context. He is speaking to the church about how their behavior could potentially have an ill-effect upon Christ and His message – and thus "hinder the Light." Peter gives a similar word to Paul's, speaking of false teachers "on account of whom (or: because of which ones) the Way [other MSS: the glory] of the Truth and Reality will be blasphemed (vilified; defamed; misrepresented with abusive slander; or: have its light hindered)" – (2 Pet. 2:1-2).

Blasphemy is not done by accident. It is done when one has the knowledge of the person, object, or idea that is being discussed.

There is only one kind of blasphemy that Christians must resist: the blasphemy they will bring on themselves if they cause a fellow believer to stumble through the thoughtless exercise of their freedom (Romans 14:15-16; 1 Corinthians 10:28-30). This is done by false teachers of God’s Word.

What is blasphemy of the Holy Spirit?

15 If ye love me, keep my commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. (John 14:15-17)KJV

5. Blasphemy against God and Jesus can be forgiven (1 Timothy 1:12-14), but blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is the only unforgivable sin in the Bible. Why is this? (Matthew 12:31-32, Mark 3:28-29, Luke 12:10, Hebrews 6:4-6, 10:26, 29)

Matthew 12:31-32 – Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.32 And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come. KJV

Mark 3:28-29 – Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme: 29 But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation. KJV

Luke 12:10 – And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but unto him that blasphemeth against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven. KJV

Hebrews 6:4-6 – It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who 4 have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, who have 5 tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age, if they 6 fall away, to be brought back to repentance, because to their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace. [NIV]

Hebrews 10:26 – Dear friends, if we deliberately continue sinning after we have received knowledge of the truth, there is no longer any sacrifice that will cover these sins. [NLT]

Hebrews 10:29 – Just think how much worse the punishment will be for those who have trampled on the Son of God, and have treated the blood of the covenant, which made us holy, as if it were common and unholy, and have insulted and disdained the Holy Spirit who brings God’s mercy to us. [NLT]

What is the Holy Spirit? He is the truth, the light, and the word that leads people to God. Because there is no wrong or lies in the truth, then the lies or wrong it is put there by men. The scripture is twisted to mean what men want it to mean and then it is taught as the truth. This false teaching corrupts the truth and people believe this corruption. If you look at all the false teachers, you will find that they were all saved and filled with the Holy Spirit early in there lives. They believed the perversion that they were taught and now the truth is not in them.

It is this knowing of the truth and the slander of the truth that caused the Pharisees to come close to blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. This slander of the Holy Spirit that the Pharisees were talking about would be saying that he has an unclean spirit. (Mark 3:30)KJV  This would hinder and harm the work of the Holy Spirit. The people would see it as work of the devil and steer away from anything like this.

Just as God gave the angels freewill, God gave us the free will to choose right from wrong, Him or the devil.

Read and study the bible for yourselves. Do not just take the word of your pastor. Test the spirits to see if they are from God. If they are not from God, leave them. God commands his people not to give encouragement, loyalty, or financial support to such teachers. To do so is to share in their “evil deeds” of deception. If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds. 2 John 1:10-11
